Overview

We are looking for experienced Network engineers in our head office- Newcastle:

 

  •   To support Sages global network operations services.
  •   To ensure that the network design is best in class.
  •   To ensure that the network roadmap aligns with the overall company technical strategy.
  •   To promote excellent service capability within the department.
  •  To contribute to strategy for integration of future acquisition and divestitures.
  •  To coordinate identification and mitigation of technical risks in network infrastructure.
  • To ensure delivery of a robust network to maximise five nines uptime.
  • To engage with third parties to derive and validate analysis and design specifications, where appropriate.

Responsibilities

 

 Develop High Quality Solutions

  • Contribute to creating a network strategy that supports the service roadmap and aligns with the overall company technology strategy
  • Evaluation of technologies and standards to identify opportunities to improve the IT network architecture
  • Identification of risks in projects together with risk mitigation planning
  • Estimating of technical tasks, especially of high level estimates early in the project lifecycle.
  • Engaging with all IT teams and suppliers to understand technical requirements and validate solutions.
  • Resolution of technical problems in deployment and live infrastructure, especially in difficult or complex areas
  • Technical evaluation of acquisition network services to assess the quality and technical fit with the existing infrastructure
  • Tier 3 Support of networking infrastructure locally and globally

 

 

Mentoring and Leadership

  • Monitoring and building the technical strength of the department by both informal methods (e.g. mentoring/coaching) and formal methods (e.g. design reviews, documented guidelines and standards, interviewing job candidates).
  • Collaborating as part of the UKI IS team to ensure that departmental operating plans are met.

 

 

Collaboration and Relationships:

  • With Specialists to ensure technical designs can be and have been properly implemented.
  • With project managers and development managers to agree priorities, identify risks, provide estimates, and ensure that development plans are feasible and align with the technology strategy
  • With third party software suppliers to co-ordinate development activities and direction.
  • With industry figures external to Sage to maintain awareness of developing technologies and best practice
  • With stakeholders to promote technology strategy and standards
  • Carry out such tasks as directed to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • Degree on computer science of similar
  • Recognized qualification in networking technology discipline eg: CCNP

 

Skills and Knowledge

 

  • Understanding of Firewalls, Load balancers and complex routed switched networks
  • Experience of CISCO network technologies
  • DNS, WINS name resolution skills
  • Experience of secure remote access solutions (Raduis, SSL/VPN)
  • Researching issues using traffic analysis tools, debug tools such as Wireshark and Network Observer.
  • Deploy and tune application Firewalls, with Cisco load balancers
  • Understanding of routing and router configurations (OSPF, EIRGP, RIP, BGP with knowledge of MPLS)
  • Administration of Cisco ACE
  • Administration of VPN tunnels
  • Consult, approve and implement all non-standard configurations
  • Responsible for training other teams on all new products and procedures.
  • Process and procedure standardisation.
  • Maintaining documents and owning large and complex configuration management.
  • Strong, hands-on technical knowledge of networking and security in general.
  • Must have comprehensive and hands-on experience of most of the technology we support.
  • Strong communications and presentation skills.
  • Serve as escalation point for IS Specialists.
  • Troubleshoot VPN client and site-to-site VPN connections.
  • Troubleshoot load balancer configurations (CSS).
  • Troubleshoot firewall configurations (PIX, ASA).
  • Responsible for performing final QC on all network devices.    
  • High-level knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP.
  • Expert level understanding of IOS, VLAN, STP, routing and Cisco switches.
  • Troubleshoot of networking devices and network related issues.
  • Committed problem solver – can demonstrate owning complex issues through to resolution.
  • Must be willing to be available for planned or unplanned out of hours work
  • Exposure to SD-WAN technologies
