The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for understanding business problems to a deep level and from several different perspectives. They own the coordination of the design of solutions to these problems for Sage Products and Services. The role requires key business analysis skills, including stakeholder management, requirements engineering and problem solving as well as a sufficient level of technical and domain knowledge to allow them to operate as a facilitating ‘hub’ for the whole project team. The Senior Solution Designer will create accurate and unambiguous artefacts, ensuring that all issues are raised and managed to completion.
They will also review and coordinate artefacts created by more junior members of the team. The Senior Business Analyst will actively seek to establish and maintain strong links with all stakeholders in order to ensure both that stakeholder needs are properly understood and that stakeholders themselves properly understand the solution that is proposed and its implications. The Senior Solution Designer will have an eye for detail and be quality focussed; resulting in thorough and well-organized analysis across all projects they work on.
Through active review of artefacts and by setting an example they will build similar capabilities in junior team members. The Senior Business Analyst must be able to both define careful, incremental improvements to existing solutions and to bring radical and challenging approaches to bear, constantly asking why things are as they are and whether new ideas may not be more effective and will have the skill, experience and judgement to know which approach is the most appropriate in a given situation. In order to determine what kind of approach is the best in a specific situation the Senior Solution Designer will always use the test of asking “How will this benefit the customer?” as their most important guide.
The Senior Business Analyst will have experience of at least one domain or area of the business, and may be sufficiently experienced to be considered as a proxy domain or technical expert. Where working with technical functions such as Development, QA, Support or LSM, the Senior Solution Designer will be able to communicate at a technical level, understanding at a high level key technologies and patterns and – in particular – the opportunities and constraints they represent.
The Senior Business Analyst may have specific understanding of the opportunities and constraints associated with a particular technology type and will be able to engage in effective discussions with technical peers about which solution approach is optimal. When appropriate – and where it is most efficient to do so - a Senior Solution Designer may be directly involved in producing artefacts that could form part of a delivery – for example, defining a specific report by creating it or configuring custom metadata to implement specific business rules. Prior to a formal QA process, the Senior Solution Designer will also be responsible for validating that an implemented solution solves the original problem and does what was intended. In addition, they will be responsible for mentoring junior members of the team in this validation and acceptance.
