Overview

We strive to employ people who are passionate about the business. We encourage our people to express their personalities and empower them to make decisions, enabling them to deliver high quality work and an extraordinary experience to their internal and external customers. We want someone truly extraordinary; someone who is passionate about their work, open to new ideas and focused on delivering consistently high quality results that enrich our business.

You will be joining the London office of a global leader in the payments and financial services industry, working as part of a dynamic team of 4 experienced DBAs.  A major responsibility for the team is to ensure that the Sage Pay core payment gateway is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

For this purpose we have a paid on-call rota, as well as overtime compensation to cover any possible call-outs.  You will also work closely with their Java development teams in an Agile DevOps environment, to create and administer the complex SQL environment behind their in-house built web applications.

Projects in the next 12 months will include migrating database instances to Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud and assisting in redesigning and re-tooling mission critical business support systems. A major SQL Server 2008 R2 to 2014 upgrade is on the cards. They are also looking to adopt some new database technologies like NoSQL.

Our immediate need is for a SQL Server professional who can demonstrate technical excellence, expertise and mastery of the core components of SQL Server. Desirable would be someone already experienced with AWS and MySQL, but this is not essential and we will be providing a fantastic opportunity for someone to develop excellence in these areas.

Essential skills

  • Experience working with VLDBs in a 24/7 fast-paced and highly transactional OLTP environment
  • In-depth understanding of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and later versions like SQL 2014 and 2016
  • Solid experience of performance Tuning, Query Optimization, DMVs, Performance Monitor (PerfMon), SQL Profiler and traces
  • Extensive experience working on improving storage and index structures, managing concurrency, query optimisation and execution plans
  • SQL internals and database architecture and design
  • Strong T SQL programming

Desirable

  • MySQL, Aurora, Linux, AWS, Cloud
  • NoSQL (DynamoDB, MongoDB and Cassandra)
  • Agile, DevOps, Git/Jenkins, Ansible
  • Experience in the Payments industry

If you have in-depth experience of SQL Server internals, performance optimisation, advanced problem resolution and looking to reach new heights in your career as part of a thriving DBA team, please get in touch.
