A super exciting opportunity for an experienced Planning Manager to join our leading Field Marketing team.


With your help, our Field Marketing function will drive demand and revenue in the region through the creation of powerful and compelling marketing campaigns that inspire prospects and customers to take action. Stepping back, there needs to be analysis, facts and insights which inform our marketing decisions and actions, enabling us to best target and nurture the right prospects at the right time, with the right message, and through the right channels.

You will assist the Regional Marketing teams to deeply understand the market, and grow market share, revenues and lifetime value through the best set of marketing actions that can be taken in light of that knowledge. 


We will measure success by your ability to develop the regional marketing plan, which clearly outlines our detailed marketing actions throughout the customer lifecycle and ensures this activity is sufficient to achieve all of our business plan goals. Importantly, this detailed plan will be based on facts and insights gained from our customer and prospect behaviour, and incorporate channel cost and effectiveness, marketing ROI, and other key measures such as churn and customer lifetime value into optimising the final mix of marketing activity and spend. The plan should also include all the necessary information on target audience, persona, proposition, channel, message, action, and associated marketing spend, yielding a marketing calendar of activity on a rolling 18 month basis.  Also you will effectively develop annual and quarterly forecasts and reviews, aligned to Sage’s internal business management cycle. 


  • You will develop and maintain a rolling 18-month regional marketing plan, continuously applying and integrating the latest facts, insights, analytics and trends to yield a plan of marketing activity that can be confidently relied upon to deliver and exceed the marketing goals and targets
  • Development and maintenance of the associated rolling 18-month marketing calendar which represents the marketing plan in timeline form, and shows summary information that can also be “drilled down” to yield further detail
  • You will work with marketing operations to prepare and maintain marketing budgets, including clearly annotating and tracking allocation by multiple attributes (e.g. NCM/ C4L, segment, product, spend category, campaign reference, etc. etc.)  
  • Use multiple data sources to proactively analyse information and identify relevant opportunities for the Marketing Directors / Managers to enable them to continuously improve marketing performance and ROI
  • Prepare fact-based business cases and recommendations for supporting shifts in resource allocation, and track performance to measure the incremental ROI of such changes
  • Regular and ad hoc analysis on actual vs plan performance, in line with Sage’s annual and quarterly business planning and review cycles
  • Prepare and recommend actions to both accelerate areas of performance above plan, and “course correct” negative deviations from plan

  • Very strong stakeholder management skills
  • Great ability to excel in a fast-paced, action orientated and real-time changing environment
  • Super-star knowledge of Marketing, the customer engagement lifecycle and business planning in a complex, multi-faceted business (experience of this in the software industry is particularly an asset)
  • You will have expert level Excel and database skills
  • Proven experience with Marketing tools and technologies, including resource management and business intelligence systems and services
  • Good experience of digital marketing, ideally in a B2B sector
  • Highly familiar with marketing measures and KPIs, and financial terms, including INQs, MQLs, ROI etc.
  • Ability to work in an international and matrix environment
  • Experience of small business markets
  • Experience of technology markets.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams and to encourage and support others to achieve their objectives.
  • You will be results oriented with strong time management skills, highly organized and driven to succeed.
  • Exceptional ability to work in a rapidly changing environment under tight timelines. Comfortable with ambiguity. Self-starter.
